We're movin...

Whew….Sister & I are tired….packing, designing, packing, decisions, placement…..yep, lots of work – and we have been so busy NAPPING through it all.  Mom won’t let us help or make any of the decisions, well who’s Blog is it?  It’s ssslllooo going, Mom isn’t a fast learner, but once she “gets it”  she gets it.  To be fair, it is just something very different, and a whole lot easier than this Blog.

We will post our “It’s Funny Friday” here on Friday (o:  teehee,  just had to make a funny.  And then it’s over to Blogspot.com.  We have a new title on our sidebar “New Blog” but that isn’t working correctly and Mom will have to fix that.  We have a cute “puppy of the day” banner and each day there is a picture and story of a doggie.  Molly Brown & Jessie are on the right sidebar too.

Well, we are being called to duty – it’s more packing.  Hmm, I think we will go and hide in an empty box and take a nap….

Greetings & Happy 4th of July.  We wish  you a most enjoyable day, filled with laughter, sunny skies, hugs and lots of goodies, like watermelon.   

We aren’t all moved in yet, but our new address is http://wwwbearsjustb-claws.blogspot.com   Mom is working on getting all of our information on our home page.  We are excited, although we aren’t happy about Mom saying something about our having “fiberfill for brains”.  We have one more post “It’s Funny Friday” here and then we will be at our new “digs”.  We are a little nervous, we hope all our new friends will like us.  We are going to have a “housewarming party” too.  (Mom’s thoughts “oh boy, this is going to be funny, they think that friends will follow their Blog.”)

Molly, The Birthday Girl

Well, here it is Friday again – the weeks are just flying by for us.  Today is Frosty Paws(TM) night for Molly & Jessie.  It’s doggie ice cream that we buy in the specialty ice cream section at the market.  The girls love it and it’s good for them.  Dad tasted it once – blah – but the girls love it. (What do the humans know?)  

 Since we have a special July 4th greeting planned we will have Molly’s birthday party post  today and celebrate for three days.  Sunday the “manly grill” gets fired up and Dad is cooking a flank steak.  We love scalloped potatoes and even though it is more of a winter dish Mom is making it for us.  We think she is buying corn-on-the cob too, yummy.  We put honey on ours (hey, we are teddy bears) and in our little furry world HONEY RULES!!!  (o:       

We can’t think of anything more to write about – well we do have a funny story (yes, about Mom) but we will save that one for later.  It’s about fear.  Now we don’t fear anything in our safe little teddy world but we guess that some humans have fears or phobias about scary things.  Yep, Mom’s is FISH. Hahahahahaha, can you believe that, FISH?  You know, those big man eating guppies.  (o:   No, this is too funny a story and way to sidesplitting (oops, no our side seams are very secure teehee)  to share with you today.  This one can stand alone in the hall of fame - hilarious stories – to be continued…..check next week’s “It’s Funny Friday” for this “fishy tale”.  Teehee.  ~~Warning~~~it will make your funny bone hurt.

Happy Birthday dear Molly, happy birthday to you.  Woof     

Bunny

Miss Bunny is a little sweetie pie who loves wearing sweaters and playing dress-up.  She is 12″ long with bent knee (perfect for shelf sitting) and bent wrists, made from mohair.  Bunny loves jewelry, especially pearls and she will ask you to show her your jewerly box hoping that you will let her wear a piece or two. 

Mom is working on packing us up – we are going to move to Blogspot.com, we will keep you posted, and let you know when we are all settled in.  Right now we will still be posting here.

What Happened?

Everything has been running smoothly here at BEARS… but nothing lasts forever (except maybe Mom’s clothes – honest, she never wears them out).  It has been fun buying mohair and opening the boxes and feeling the softness of the fur.  All is right with this little teddy bear world.  Yep – it has been good.        

Until the “Wabbit Went Wong”…         

It’s the Wabbit’s fault.  Teddy bears never make sewing difficult – it’s them there wabbits – every time.  Things were going smoothly, and Mom was stitching up the stuffing openings and noticed that her cutting lines were showing.  Oh no, it went from sunny, blue skies, smiles and laughter to    

In an instant...

disappointment and a hint, just a hint, of a temper tantrum.  A trace….but  she gets over it quickly.  So we decided that maybe the wabbit was a good animal to practice new ideas and techniques on….a little shop model.   The nose – there is nothing about bear making that can turn Mom into a maniac more than “nose time”.  She puts it off, finds every excuse in the book to NOT do the nose now, name it, she has used it. And, of course, it didn’t go well.  Okay – the wabbit is not going to happen (ha, a teddy bear would never cause so much grief).  (o:      

But the silver lining is that Mom knows to be very careful when tracing patterns, however the string mohair that she used is just about gone.  Maybe she can squeeze another wabbit or small teddy bear from that last piece – we aren’t sure.  But we don’t give up easily.   As for the noses – CLAY NOSES, and that makes Mom smile.  

That’s it for now – whew…..more we could not handle.  But we love each other and that’s what counts the most.

~~A Little Beach Angel~~

Since Monday was the official “first day of summer” Mom asked us to write about a childhood summer. Gee, that got us to thinking….     

Summer as a child, those long, sunny, endless days,  when everything was relaxed and calm.  Days were filled with projects that Moms were expert at finding and always willing to lend a helping hand.     

In the little town of  Springfield there was an arts and crafts summer day camp. The projects were so much fun, the little “burner” to make for Dad to “grill” on.  It was nothing more than a tall tin can – with lots of magic, but it worked.  Or the braided key ring that was perfect for Mom, in just the colors that she would love.     

Lunches – the best of the best was always peanut butter and jelly – and it was said “peanut butter and jelly”, not PB&J. What was so yummy about a good, standard peanut butter and jelly sandwich on white bread?  It was part of childhood.  Childhood the way it use to be.     

And then, FINALLY, family vacation. Mom went with her parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles to Point Pleasant Beach and then in the later years,  Atlantic City.  A week’s vacation of spending the day on the beach, going out to a restaurant for dinner and then the excitement of walking on the boardwalk in the evening. The magic part – when it got dark. The consessions and amusement rides would all light up and the smell of cotton candy and popcorn (did somebody say popcorn – our all time favorite?) filled the air.    

That is what we remember about summer.  And then Labor Day Weekend and school beginning that following Wednesday.  It was the beginning of fall and everyone was glad to be back, seeing old friends and making new ones.  Life was simple then….      

We wish you a summer filled with love, laughter and peanut butter & jelly sandwiches (on white bread).

Hi,   

We would like you to meet our Beth who just arrived at BEARS…. on Saturday.  She is a sweet little girl, standing 4.5″ tall & 5″ long.  Beth is made from a sparse, golden colored mohair and has ultrasuede paw pads in a medium brown color, and jointed only at the neck.  Her inner ears are made from a lovely dark blue calico fabric.   

Mom was joking and tied a little silk ribbon on her tail and we told her she was all set for a tea party.  When Mom tried to remove the ribbon Beth looked very sad so we decided that this little one must wear a bow and be invited to a tea party.  We hope you love her as much as we do.

To all Dads, Husbands, Grandfathers, Uncles – we wish you a very happy day.  We didn’t know this but this year marks the 100th birthday of “Fathers Day”.

And we have a special “happy day  wish” to all the husbands & boyfriends that have teddy bear artist wives, girlfriends, all lovers and makers of TEDDY BEARS. 

In all honesty (at least in our home) the atmosphere can turn from sunshine & smiles to pouts and tantrums in a matter of minutes.  Maybe it’s just in our home…..maybe yours too?  You know when all seems right with the world, it’s quiet, maybe you are reading the Sunday paper, watching sports on the telly and all of a sudden BOOM……………………..zip – gone – fur begins to fly, shouts, sobs, it’s that dreaded moment when all peace seems to leave your happy life.  The TEDDY BEAR MISHAP.  A wrong snip of fur, a broken machine needle, a pesky nose that must be AGAIN torn out.  An arm that is jointed higher or lower than the other one.  All of it…..

Ah…peace and quiet gone in an instant.  But please don’t take it to heart.  We love what we do, we create, cut, sew and when that little teddy bear is complete, with name and now a personality all is forgotten, and forgiven?  Yes?  Yes!  It’s the same with dads, husbands, grandfathers, uncles, brothers, nephews (have we overlooked anyone?), you may have had a really bad day at work, and come home and just need a smile or a hug  ~ maybe a kiss  (o:  ~   Have you ever thought of hugging a TEDDY BEAR?  Talk about a stress release – whew.   Those big round eyes, those cute furry ears – it’s what we do all the time.  Have you hugged a teddy bear today?

And so, we hope we have made you laugh, and most sincerely we wish you a HAPPY FATHER’S DAY.

Mom was laughing with the bagger at the grocery store on Friday.  She wondered how many dads would be grilling today.  You know – the “manly grill” the “flame thrower”.  Mom doesn’t like our manly grill – she hates it.  On a rare occassion she will have to start it up.  Well, it is out of a comic book.  She goes out, uncovers it, looks at it quietly (we think she is saying a prayer that she won’t set herself ablaze), puts the lid up, and then walks to the side of it (now this thing is about a city block long, no foolin’) try’s to reach the starter button, I mean her arm is so outstretched we think it may be dislocated at this point, and try’s to “click” the starter button.  Not gonna happen.  So she moves to the other side (Oh Mom, same distance as the other side, dah) and try’s again.  Eventully, she gets it started and is just so proud of herself.  If we could video the scene we would make lots of money.  Hahahahahahaha.  And we keep saying, “you gotta just love her”.

Well, the good news is we are still here – the bad news is that in this whole wide world NOBODY wanted us.  Color us HAPPY.  Mom did mention several times:  “Girls, I can’t even give you away.”  Whew….   

Double Trouble

We don’t think she was serious, but just to make sure we quietly went upstairs and cleaned the craft room.  Sister took all the pretty pieces of mohair and stacked them neatly on the shelf, eye level, so Mom could pick a color easily.  I dusted the shelves, straightened up the clutter on the sewing machine, tidied up the work table and then took a nap.  We wanted to vacuum but we are little and that monster is scary.  When I woke up we cuddled in our blankie and tried to look really pathetic – like “would you really, REALLY give us away?”  TeeHee, it worked, we could see the expression on Mom’s face.  She loves us to pieces (oh, maybe the word “pieces” isn’t quite the word to use right now, after all she won’t give us away but she could take us apart).  OUCH.   

Tomorrow we are going to the local Model Railroad show at the fairgrounds.  Mom said she would leave her purse home and put us in our tote bag and we can hold her wallet and checkbook.  Maybe she will buy us a present.  Mom loves the Z Gauge trains (they are the smallest) and HO scale.  Dad likes N Gauge & G Gauge (garden gauge, they are the largest made).  And Mom says there is always the possibility of finding a miniature treasure for our many projects.
